On Thursday, July 25, we took a field trip to Concepcion, a nearby town renowned for its bread. Bernabe, the director of Expand Peru, wanted the girls to conduct research on different bakeries before starting their own in San Pedro de Sano. We visited two family bread businesses and watched the workers masterfully extract bread from huge artisanal ovens. Pens and notebooks in hand, the girls asked questions regarding the cost of equipment, the ingredients to make different types of bread, and the time required for cooking. The day ended with a photo shoot in a nearby park and the opportunity to sample some of the baked goods. The students are returning next week for culinary lessons!
